Reading the website

You do not need an account to read these pages. The site is hosted through Cloudflare. Delivering and protecting a website involves processing technical information such as your IP address, requested URL, request time, browser and device information, and security signals.

Cloudflare may process this information for delivery, security, abuse prevention, operational logs, and aggregate traffic reporting, depending on the services and settings in use. Its processing and retention are governed by the relevant service configuration and policies. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

The site’s own page code does not set advertising cookies or add a separate visitor-analytics script while advertising is paused. Hosting and security services may use storage or cookies needed to provide or protect the service. A browser request still reaches the host even if cookies are blocked.

Advertising and cookies

Google advertising is currently paused on this site. The pages do not load the AdSense advertising script. A publisher-verification meta tag and the ads.txt file identify the intended advertising account; these are static text and do not themselves contact Google or set cookies.

If Google advertising is enabled later, third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies, local storage, device identifiers, IP addresses, and information about ad interactions to serve, measure, and protect advertising. These vendors may use information from prior visits to this site or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve personalized ads based on visits to this and other sites.

Before advertising is enabled, this notice and the consent controls must reflect the actual setup. Where consent is required, an appropriate consent flow must be available before advertising storage or personalization is allowed. Personalized advertising for visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland requires a Google-certified consent management platform. Applicable US privacy choices and opt-out signals must also be addressed. Non-personalized ads are not automatically exempt from cookie-consent requirements.

Some other vendors provide opt-outs at YourAdChoices. These settings do not replace any consent required on this site, and opting out of personalization does not necessarily stop all ads.

Your privacy choices

No advertising consent is requested while advertising is paused: there is no active ad loader to authorize. You can read the site without accepting advertising. No advertising preference is stored by the site in this state.

You can use your browser’s controls to block or delete cookies and local storage. This can affect security checks or services you choose to visit. The current site code makes no advertising requests regardless of whether your browser sends Global Privacy Control. When advertising is introduced, supported opt-out signals and a way to change or withdraw choices must be tested before activation.

Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information, object to or restrict certain processing, withdraw consent, or opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising. Contact me at the email above to make a request. I may need proportionate information to confirm that a request concerns your data; do not send passwords or identity documents in an initial email. You may also have the right to contact your local data-protection authority.

If you contact me

If you email me, I receive your email address, the content of your message, and any information you choose to include. I use that information to respond and manage the conversation, not to sign you up for marketing. Email is handled by the email service provider. Avoid sending secrets or sensitive personal information.

Where applicable, the purposes and legal bases for processing include responding to your request and legitimate interests in operating, securing, and maintaining the site and its correspondence. Consent is the basis for optional advertising processing where required. Information is kept only as needed for those purposes, relevant security or legal obligations, and the providers’ applicable retention arrangements; there is no single fixed retention period for all hosting and email records.

Other sites and service providers

Some articles contain clearly labeled Amazon affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. If you follow one of these links, Amazon may receive information about your visit and use cookies or similar technologies under its own privacy and advertising policies. This site does not embed Amazon product widgets or load an Amazon tracking script just because you read an article. You can read the article without following or buying through a product link.

Links to Patreon, social networks, research sources, and Google’s settings take you to services with their own privacy practices. Following a link shares ordinary connection information with the destination. This notice does not govern what those services collect or information you provide there.

Hosting, security, and email providers may process information outside your country under their applicable processing terms and safeguards. This site does not offer an account, payment, or newsletter signup form. Information you submit on an external platform is handled under that platform’s policies.
